It was just a personal choice, I have models in both 1:35 and 1:32 and always preferred 1:35.
16.5mm gauge is near to 2 ft scale in 1:35 and avoids having to hand build track to 19mm gauge in 1:32.
These models were originally started as a project to scratch build my own 1:35 scale locos, but decided I could make them available to a wider audience.
There are so many items available in 1:35 which I can adapt to railway modelling (figures etc), but not so many in 1:32, I also enjoy military modelling which also had an influence.
